KIMBRA TAYLOR: ARTIST/TUTOR

Kimbra graduated from the Wellington School of design with a Diploma of visual communications. She worked as an illustrator in publishing and advertising for several years. During that time she was employed by the Wellington School of Design as a tutor in illustration, graphic techniques and life drawing.She went on to work as a freelance illustrator specializing in magazine, fashion and book illustration. She worked for Thomas Nelson publishing firm and has many published children’s books.Over the years she has taken part in group exhibitions and has sold artwork. Kimbra has tutored at Whitireia Polytechnic and Weltech where she taught life drawing and drawing & painting. She taught general drawing and perspective at the Wellington School of Architecture.

She teaches drawing and painting using the right mode of the brain to adults on the Kapiti coast and in Wellington. She works privately and is employed by WEA (Workers Educational Association) and Inverlochy Art School where she runs weekend workshops in Right Mode Drawing and five day summer schools in life drawing and painting. Currently Kimbra draws and paints from the model for three days every month with a group of local artists. Work from these sessions is available for sale.

She is the 2009 winner of the Gordon Harris best painting award at the NZ Splash National Watercolour Exhibition, October 12th, Shed 11, Wellington.

She was a finalist in the 2010 Adam Award National Portraiture Exhibition. Her portrait of Harriet Bright was one of forty selected to tour the country.

Kimbra won a merit award at the 2010 Kapiti / Horowhenua Annual Review Exhibition - Select/ED.
